What is ADHD?

Understanding how ADHD affects learning and behavior of both children and adults is important.

The purpose of this website is to help participants develop and deepen their understanding of ADHD and identify strategies that will be effective in treating the symptoms of ADHD.

What are we doing here?

ADHD can be a controversial topic. There are those who view this disorder with skepticism.  All of us, they say, have trouble paying attention sometimes; children especially.  If those claiming to have this disorder just tried harder, they would be able to attend, focus, and learn just like everyone else.  Some in the media suggest that the diagnosis is rampant and overblown.  But these skeptics are wrong.  ADHD is a real and serious lifelong disorder.  Much research has been done and continues to be done to help us better understand the difficulties those diagnosed with ADHD face.

Research has changed the way we understand ADHD.  This website is the path my learning journey has taken as I work to re-educate myself on this disorder.  I invite you to join me and am creating my "footsteps" on this website so that you can follow along!  The resources that I am delving into will be made available here so you can delve with me.  This will be an ongoing project as I will regularly add resources that help expand my understanding.

Rather than putting full articles or videos up, I'll be carefully choosing bite-size nuggets (with a full list of resources on a page of it's own for those of you who like the whole thing.)  There will also be opportunities for you to join in the conversation about what you are learning and how it's challenging what you think you knew!  My goal is for this to be simple, conversational, and self-paced.

Feedback is always welcome so that we can all create the path for others to follow.

Participation matters!  It'll help you learn.

Just so I have an idea where people are coming from, what county/city/town are you in? If you are not from Virginia, just put the state!
I'm not going to contact you (unless you ask me to and give me your e-mail address). I just like to know who's here!

As you participate, you'll be invited to leave your e-mail.

You do not have to leave your e-mail unless you would like a response from me.  This website doesn't give me information about "who" is participating. You'll never be "spammed." In fact, once you've been invited to the website (based on signing up to be invited), your information is shredded.  I ask for your name on each page because I'm trying to track how far people go into the website (and as you move along and participate, I can track where you journey).  If you don't want to give me your whole name, make one up. Just use the same one each time!
